Defend The Vote Executive Director Brian Lemek released the following statement on the Supreme Court’s decision in former President Trump’s immunity case regarding the January 6th insurrection:
“The Supreme Court today showed us once again that it is captured by MAGA Dark Money extremists.
“The MAGA majority legalized corruption and criminal behavior for U.S. Presidents, and it undercut the principle of our justice system that no one is above the law. It also stalled long enough to likely delay any remaining possibility of Donald Trump being held accountable before the 2024 election for attempting to overturn the 2020 election and sparking the January 6 attack on the Capitol – preventing voters from seeing the evidence before November.
“This is a dramatic failure of the Court’s responsibility to our democracy.
“Justice Thomas and Alito, particularly, have been corrupted by their many conflict of interests and there is no doubt the Court must institute an enforceable code of ethics.”
