Defend The Vote Executive Director Brian Lemek released the following statement in response to Donald Trump’s speech, in which he repeated lies about elections, including information already litigated and debunked.
“Donald Trump fed the American people more lies tonight. Americans aren’t falling for it.
“With major election losses just months away, the President is attempting to undermine confidence in our electoral system in a desperate attempt to hold onto power.
“Having failed to lower costs or solve the challenges families face every day, he’s once again trying to rig the system instead of earning the support of voters.
“Election officials of both parties work year-round to administer secure, fair, and transparent elections. They deserve respect and support, not lies and misinformation like what Donald Trump told tonight. That, and the confusion it causes, directly undercuts their work.
“In America, voters decide who wins elections—not politicians trying to change the rules or mislead voters. Defend The Vote will continue working to ensure every eligible American can cast a ballot and have their vote counted, and that every election reflects the choice of the people. Our democracy is strongest when leaders respect voters, tell the truth about our elections, and accept the results.”
