Defend The Vote Executive Director Brian Lemek released the following statement in reaction to Senate Republicans’ passage of Donald Trump’s Big Ugly Bill.
“If you needed any more evidence that our system is broken, Senate Republicans just delivered it. They passed a massive giveaway for Trump and his billionaire friends — paid for by kicking millions off health care, making the largest cuts to Medicaid in history, raising energy costs, slashing food assistance, and lowering incomes for working people. It adds trillions to the debt.
“This bill is a direct attack on American families. It rigs the rules even further in favor of billionaire donors and big corporations, who don’t need more help. Everyday people are getting squeezed, and now Senate Republicans have joined with Donald Trump to make it even worse.
“Defend the Vote will continue to oppose this bill as it moves back to the House. We will hold every lawmaker who supports it accountable.
“Americans deserve better than elected leaders who take from working people to enrich the powerful. It’s never been more clear: we must rebuild our democracy — and we’re committed to making it work for everyone.”
