DTV Endorses Sherrill for Governor

Sherrill believes democracy should serve the people, not special interests

Defend The Vote today is endorsing Mikie Sherrill for Governor of New Jersey. Sherrill has been a fierce advocate for defending the freedom to vote so our democracy serves the people, not just billionaires and special interests.

“Mikie Sherrill is a remarkable leader who spends every day fighting for New Jersey families,” DTV Executive Director Brian Lemek said. “As Governor, she’ll stand up to Donald Trump, who is attacking the rights and freedoms of New Jerseyans in order to give power to his billionaire allies. We look forward to helping Mikie win this race.”

Sherrill, a Navy veteran, has committed to working to ensure every eligible voter has the opportunity to participate in safe, accessible elections so that their voices are heard and their voters are counted. She is a cosponsor of the Freedom to Vote Act and John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.

“I signed up to serve my country at 18 years old when I entered the U.S. Naval

Academy — and since then, I’ve taken more oaths to the Constitution than I can count. My commitment to defending democracy runs deep to my core, and I’m so proud to have Defend The Vote’s support in this campaign for governor,” Sherrill said. “With the chaos and corruption coming from Trump’s Washington, we have no choice but to fight back and chart a different path forward in New Jersey — and make life better for the people who call the Garden State home.”

Last cycle, DTV endorsed Andy Kim early in his primary for Senate, helping spread his pro-democracy message, build momentum, and secure victory in the primary and general election.

Defend The Vote is one of the nation’s leading and most influential pro-democracy organizations. It is dedicated to electing pro-voting rights candidates, up and down the ballot, who will ensure our elections give everyone a voice and our democracy serves the people. DTV supports endorsed candidates through direct donations, fundraising support from its pro-democracy donor network, independent expenditures, issue briefings, message guidance and research, and on the ground and in-state campaign support. Last cycle, it helped elect 108 pro-democracy candidates, including 75% of the candidates it endorsed.
