As the threats to our democracy continue to intensify, Defend The Vote (DTV), one of the nation’s leading and most influential pro-democracy organizations, is endorsing a slate of candidates for the House of Representatives who are committed to defending voting rights, our freedoms, and the rule of law.
“As the 2024 election approaches, the threats to our democracy are increasing,” DTV Executive Director Brian Lemek said. “It’s critical that we elect Members of Congress who will protect against extremism and ensure everyone has their vote counted and voice heard. These candidates will defend democracy and make it work for everyone, not only billionaires and corporate interests.”
The slate of candidates include, Raquel Terán (AZ-03), Lateefah Simon (CA-12), Rudy Salas (CA-22), Luz Rivas (CA-29), Laura Friedman (CA-30), Derek Tran (CA-45), Johnny Olszewski (MD-02), Sarah Elfreth (MD-03), Kelly Morrison (MN-03), Sue Altman (NJ-07), John Mannion (NY-22), Janelle Stelson (PA-10), Michelle Vallejo (TX-15), and Julie Johnson (TX-32).
The candidates have committed to working in the House of Representatives on protecting and expanding the right to vote, ending dark money, and ensuring democracy works for everyone. They support the Freedom to Vote Act and John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act as well as funding for local election workers to run safe and accessible elections without threat of harassment or intimidation and to prevent the spread of misinformation.
