Defend The Vote today endorsed Lindsay James for Congress in Iowa’s 2nd District, highlighting her commitment to defending democracy, lowering costs for working families, and standing up to the special interests rigging the system against everyday Iowans.
“Lindsay James understands that too many families feel like the system is stacked against them while powerful interests and corporate lobbyists call the shots in Washington,” said Brian Lemek, Executive Director of Defend The Vote. “She’s running to bring accountability back to government, protect fundamental freedoms, and make sure working people have a voice again. Lindsay will be a strong advocate for reforming a political system that too often leaves everyday Americans behind.”
James is running to bring economic fairness to all Americans and to ensure our democracy serves the people instead of billionaires and corporate interests. She understands voters’ demand for leaders focused on practical solutions for working families rather than political gamesmanship and insider politics.
In Congress she will support anti-corruption reforms, defend the right to vote and support legislation like the Freedom to Vote Act and the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act to ensure political power belongs to the people.
Defend The Vote and Defend The Vote Action Fund launched a $14 million cycle plan last year to support their respective missions, with DTV working to elect pro-democracy candidates and DTV Action Fund focused on pro-democracy issue advocacy.
DTV supports candidates through direct donations, fundraising support from its pro-democracy donor network, independent expenditures, issue briefings, message guidance and research, and on the ground and in-state campaign support.
Last cycle, it helped elect 108 pro-democracy candidates, 75% of the candidates it endorsed.
