Defend The Vote Endorses Candidates to Build Pro-Democracy House Majority

Endorses slate of candidates in districts currently held by Republicans or open seats in an effort to build a House majority of pro-democracy champions 

Each candidate will protect and strengthen voting rights, our democracy, and the rule of law 

Defend The Vote (DTV), one of the nation’s leading and most influential pro-democracy organizations, has endorsed a new slate of candidates to build a pro-democracy House majority.

Each candidate supports legislation to protect and strengthen voting rights, our democracy, and the rule of law and is running in a district currently held by Republicans or that will have open seats in November.

Republican Held Seats: Kirsten Engel AZ-06, Adam Gray CA-13, George Whitesides CA-27, Whitney Fox FL-13, Christina Bohannan IA-01, Tony Vargas NE-02, Laura Gillen NY-04, Mondaire Jones NY-17, Josh Riley NY-19, Janelle Bynum OR-05.

Open Seats: Shomari Figures AL-02, Gil Cisneros CA-31, Dave Min CA-47, Sarah McBride DE-AL, Curtis Hertel MI-07, Kristen McDonald Rivet MI-08, Tim Kennedy NY-26, Eddy Morales OR-03.

“The only way to ensure that our leaders are accountable to the people instead of corporations and billionaires is to elect candidates who will protect the freedom to vote and the rule of law and get dark money out of the system,” DTV Executive Director Brian Lemek said. “When we elect these candidates to Congress, we’ll ensure there’s a majority in the House that will defend against extremism and threats to democracy. We look forward to working with them to pass historic reforms like the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Act.”  

The slate of candidates have committed to working in the House of Representatives on protecting and expanding the right to vote, ending dark money, and ensuring democracy works for everyone.

They support the Freedom to Vote Act and John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act as well as funding for local election workers to run safe and accessible elections without threat of harassment or intimidation and to prevent the spread of misinformation. Electing them to Congress is essential to building a House majority that will pass legislation that protects every American’s right to vote in safe, accessible, transparent elections.
