Defend The Vote Executive Director Brian Lemek released the following statement on House passage of the Republican Budget, Donald Trump’s Big Ugly Bill.
“Today, House Republicans completed the job — ramming through Donald Trump’s Big Ugly Bill. It’s one of the most corrupt and cruel pieces of legislation in modern history. A betrayal of the American people.
“This bill gives massive tax breaks to Trump’s billionaire donors, paid for by kicking millions off health care, making the largest cuts to Medicaid in our nation’s history, slashing food assistance, raising energy costs, and cutting incomes for working people. It adds trillions to the national debt to do it.
“This is what a broken system looks like: powerful politicians doing the bidding of the ultra-wealthy at the expense of everyday Americans. Billionaires and corporations don’t need more help. Families do.
“Defend the Vote will continue to expose and hold accountable every lawmaker who voted for this disgrace. Voters won’t forget who stood with working people — and who sold them out.
