Defend The Vote Executive Director Brian Lemek released the following statement after House Republicans passed the SAVE Act, a bill to prevent millions of eligible American citizens from voting.
“House Republicans have passed a bill they know will block millions of people from voting.
“They had several opportunities to amend the bill. Instead, they kept measures that could prevent married women, members of the military, rural voters, low income voters, and voters of color from registering to vote.
“By blocking American citizens from voting, Republicans would deny millions of people who need it most the ability to have a say in the decisions that impact their lives – from the cost of groceries to access to health care to stopping gun violence. They are giving more power and influence to their big donors and billionaires to shape policies for their own benefit at the expense of everyone else.
“Defend The Vote intends on holding Republicans accountable for their attack on the freedom to vote and on our democracy.”
