Defend The Vote today endorsed Colin Allred (TX-33) and Johnny Garcia (TX-35) for Congress, backing two Texas candidates focused on lowering costs for working families and challenging the influence of powerful special interests in Washington.
“Texans are looking for leaders who will put working families ahead of corporate insiders and political extremism,” said Brian Lemek, Executive Director of Defend The Vote. “Colin Allred has built his career around holding powerful interests accountable and fighting for Texans who feel ignored by a broken political system. Johnny Garcia understands firsthand the economic pressures facing working people and is running to make government more accountable and responsive.”
Allred and Garcia are running to restore trust in government, lower costs for working families, and push back against a political system too often dominated by wealthy special interests and corporate influence.
In Congress they will support anti-corruption reforms, defend the right to vote and support legislation like the Freedom to Vote Act and the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act to ensure political power belongs to the people.
Defend The Vote and Defend The Vote Action Fund launched a $14 million cycle plan last year to support their respective missions, with DTV working to elect pro-democracy candidates and DTV Action Fund focused on pro-democracy issue advocacy.
DTV supports candidates through direct donations, fundraising support from its pro-democracy donor network, independent expenditures, issue briefings, message guidance and research, and on the ground and in-state campaign support.
